Q. Who should deal with a grievance?


The Manager should deal with the grievance.

The exceptions to this are:

  • When the Manager is part of the problem
  • When the Manager is unavailable to deal with the situation or
  • When the Manager needs someone impartial to deal with a sensitive issue.

The important thing here is to deal with the issue promptly, fairly and consistently in line with ACAS Code of Practice and your Grievance Policy.

With sensitive issues it can help to bring in a third party who understands your working environment and your culture.

We provide assistance and guidance with the grievance process. This includes supporting Managers in meetings or conducting the investigation where necessary.
