Every warning, be it verbal or written must be given the right of appeal.
It is the same for any dismissal. Never penalise someone for bringing an appeal as they are legally entitled to do this.
If you have received an appeal, the important rule is to deal with it promptly.
Follow these steps:
- Meet to discuss the evidence and reason for appeal
- Pause to consider your response
- Let them know in a letter, your decision either to reduce, overturn or keep to the original decision
- Appeal - confirm if there is a further right of appeal or if that’s the final decision. (Your Company Policy should spell this out)
