Every employer has a legal duty to pay Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) in accordance with the rules set by the Government.
Employees must follow correct reporting procedures and provide evidence from a GP after 7 days.
This is called a Fit Note (even though they are not fit, it is still called a fit note)
Employees are entitled to be paid SSP once they have been off work for 4 consecutive days.
SSP entitlement rules are complex. Your payroll department or bureau can help you calculate the cost of sick leave accurately.
Company Sick Pay, also known as Contractual Sick Pay may be offered by your Company and this will be detailed in the Contract of Employment.
