The Bradford Factor is a formula used to calculate the impact that short, frequent and unplanned absences have on a business. The theory behind it is that these absences have a greater disruptive influence on productivity, therefore measuring it is a useful management tool.

The calculation is based on the number of separate absences (S) multiplied by the number of days absence (D) and a weighting is applied to the (S) to give you the Bradford Factor.
The higher the number, the greater the concern. Typically a score of 45 or greater is a matter for concern and corrective action should be considered.
