Nicola Scott - HR Savvy

Join us in welcoming Nicola Scott to the HR Savvy team.

It’s the beginning of a new month and we’re delighted to tell you that the HR Savvy team is growing with the recent addition of Nicola Scott.

An Employment Law specialist, Nicola will be taking the lead on all complex legal matters such as TUPE, acquisitions, business restructuring and employment cases that have a high risk of litigation.

Nicola has experience in HR roles within both the public and private sector which became more employee relations focussed over the last 8 years. Her keen interest in employment law has seen her advise clients on a wide range of matters, from complex disciplinary matters, high-risk grievances and large-scale restructure projects including TUPE. She also has experience of conciliation of tribunal claims through Acas and tribunal advocacy.

“I am thrilled that Nicola has joined the HR Savvy team.  Nicola and I have worked together in a previous organisation and I am delighted to bring Nicola’s straight-forward approach and commercially-focussed Employment Law expertise to our customers.” Tracey Murphy, Owner of HR Savvy.

At the heart of HR is people so as well as telling you Nicola’s experience we thought we’d ask her some questions that would help you get to know her better. If you’re never sure what to ask a new starter to your business, there are some great questions listed here.

Where did your passion for HR begin?

I completed work experience in a HR department when I was 16 which led to me choosing HR as a degree subject. I graduated from Lancaster University in 2004 and have worked in various HR roles ever since – my first job was to input new starter details and payroll data manually on a system!

I enjoy staying up to date with the constant changes in employment law, using this knowledge to advise businesses on the risks and options associated with wide-ranging employee matters.

Where’s your favourite place in the world?

I like to run to relax and destress. One of my routes take me through a local park, over the River Ribble and there is a great spot on the bridge where I love to stop and take in the view. It always relaxes me and is my local ‘go to’ place when I need to unwind.

Otherwise, it could be a beach in Lanzarote, somewhere I have been many times with friends and family.

If you could visit anywhere in the world you’ve never been, where would you go?

I would love to go to India and it is definitely on my list of places to visit in the next few years. I am interested in the food, culture and just the sheer size of the place. It would be great to explore.

 What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about friends and family, keeping in regular contact with them and having those close relationships is important to me.

Aside from that, I love food, both cooking and eating. I like discovering new recipes and trying new cuisines. A current favourite is Vietnamese or Korean.

What’s the last book you read?

I like a good crime thriller with a dose of forensics and pathology so it would have been one of those, probably something by Karen Slaughter or Mo Hayder. I don’t get as much time to read as I would like, usually only on holiday.
